2026 DICHOTOMY LECTURE

Who is the decolonial urban designer?

Invited Speaker: Shreya Vadrevu, Urban and Architectural Designer, University of Michigan

Location: Loranger Architecture Building, University of Detroit Mercy McNichols Campus (4001 W McNichols Rd, Detroit, MI, 48221)

When: March 2nd, @4:30pm (Exhibition Room)

This presentation explores beyond what is and has been taken for granted in sovereignty struggles, to reach for a liberatory global politic. Engaging deeply with the intricacies of urban design, it will navigate the complexities of post-colonial perspectives within the profession. This methodology is expected to be granular + fragmented research through cultural, spatial, and language interventions. Utilizing mixed methods: photography, counter-mapping, and participatory documentation of public markets, the presentation will center on the question: What is the evolution of a decolonial urban designer?
